I Salt fire in an outdoor kiln that was orignally an electric kiln but has
been converted to an outdoor gas/wood kiln. I fire to cone 11 to 12
without using a pyrometer or witness cones. I judge the firing completely
on the look of the pieces and the color of the fire. This kiln is located at
Adelphi Univerity Ceramic Studio.
This kiln is 12 x 5 x 5 feet. Fueled by wood and gas.
Firebox 9" x 22" x 22" 
Flame shooting out from the chimney at cone 10. 
Every firing usually takes 6 ~ 8 hours to finish.
